don't make me a target

hey friends, brian reporting in

i dunno how i never managed to get into the band Spoon before now... they are awesome. i'm currently listening to their latest one 'Ga Ga Ga Ga Ga' and this is some nice rock n roll.

so we inch ever closer and closer to our recording time, and my anticipation is building. i know it's going to be such an awesome experience. i cant wait to have our musical ideas fully realized for the first time in the history of this band. even with all the corner cuttings we've had to do over time due to lack of equipment, money, time, or expertise, i've always felt at least somewhat satisfied. the fact that i'm going to be able to listen to a professionally recorded and mixed product and be able to say 'that's us' is more exciting than i can really say.

for any readers of this blog, i would like to ask you a favor. i just submitted some news regarding our band's recording session with casey crescenzo to absolutepunk.net's small band round up.

i'm sure they would be much more likely to post it if multiple people were to submit it. if you have the time, just shoot a quick e-mail over to:

jamie.pham@absolutepunk.net

make the subject 'SBRU' and say anything along the lines of 'his hideous heart from cleveland, oh will be recording a new album with Casey Crescenzo (the dear hunter) in July' and include these links:

http://www.myspace.com/hishideousheart
http://www.purevolume.com/hishideousheart

that would be super awesome.

i love the weather this time of year. the fact that it shifts so much every day, every hour. one minute it's pouring rain, the next there's a beautiful sunset. i like being kept on my toes like that.

cheers,

Mike here, this is my first post.

So first off I'd like to thank everyone who came out and supported us at the Grog Shop on Thursday. Thanks to Unwed Sailor, Sybris and To Be a High Powered Executive, none of whom will probably ever read this.

It went well and there was a good turnout.

Though it was nowhere near in comparison to our show the following morning at the Chagrin Falls Rec Center. We rocked at our private 1 p.m. parking lot show for the Guitar Hero Camp, a small group of 9 and 10 year olds yearning for some heavy rock and roll.

Needless to say, we brought the rock, and I accidentally broke one of Jeff's Mallets while performing a bass drum jump.

I'm getting crazy excited for our trip which we embark for in just over a week. We've got 4 tracks that we are for sure recording, two nearing completion that will most likely appear, and about three more slightly subpar ones that we will see what we can do with and might make an appearance.

I'm going to Chicago with ben for a couple days and he, Aaron and I will leave for RI upon our return.

Our practice space is infested with centipedes.
It is groty.

P.S. I'm buying a drum machine, a cello synthesizer, a lower octave pedal and using my delay modeler. Everyone is out of the band except me. James is going to play Synth and carry things to shows. Get ready for HHH v.2

Love,
-Michael

thanks ben franklin...

...for inventing the American library system that i am currently using to type this blog post. what a country!

so the drive to finish up the new song arrangements before we meet up with casey and andy continues stronger than ever. i unfortunately missed out on some practice due to my car running out of gas on the way, but we still got some stuff done. most notably on a new instrumental number entitled 'can we share the bench' that was largely written by our cello player ben austin. i really want to get this song worked out and done so we can show you guys, because its definitely the most technically proficient thing we've done so far. i never thought we would be heading into math rock territory, but that's what seems to be in the cards for this little number. it's a toughie, but that will only make it that much better once we get it perfected.

so after the relative disaster that was this past saturday, i am hoping that our show on thursday goes well. the fact that we are all incredibly excited, (admittedly a tad more so than we were for the grad party) and the fact that we couldn't be playing with a better set of bands (unwed sailor, sybris, and fellow thievelanders to be a high powered executive) has me feeling pretty optimistic.
another great thing about the show; it will be our first one where our cd will actually be for sale! so if you don't have one yet and hate the internet, come out and pick up a copy! i guarantee you it will be an investment. we'll even sign it for you or something to ensure that ebay feedback in 50 years (if there is still ebay, or the internet, or money, or a planet in 50 years).

well i think i've rambled just about long enough. according to the timer in my task bar i only have 20 minutes left on this computer, so i want to use it for something productive (i guess).

remember; thursday, june 26th @ grog shop w/ unwed sailor, sybris, to be a high powered executive

be there or be... somewhere else.

cheers,
-brian

a no show...

Hey guys, this is jeff and ben.

We had been practicing for a grad party today, and the second we got there, it started hailing and pouring and it never stopped for like two hours.  When we finally determined we weren't gonna play, we left and saw the shining sun  finally make an appearance (on our left).  Sad...

We were excited to play a really special song just for the grad party, but we'll save it and wait for the next opportunity.

We still have a show on the 26th at the Grog!  YAY!

ben here:   i don't really have anything to add :)

cheers!

a few thoughts...

hey guys, brian here

so we've been kicking around lots of new songs right? in order to get ready for this new album that we are going to record. i really think that people are going to like them. the one thing that i admire most about my fellow bandmates is that they actually know how to write songs; not only do they have an understanding of music theory that tends to leave me in the dark, but they also have that holistic sense that lets them step outside the song's inner workings and hear the whole product. this is where i come in more.

i really hope you guys who live in the cleveland area will come out to some of these shows we have lined up. we really can't wait to show everyone how much we've grown musically. mostly we want to have fun.

in all reality, the songs that we record in july probably won't come out for a long time. this is due to the fact that we are not on a label and we have no distribution. at the same time, we want these songs to be properly heard by everyone. i dont think anyone in the band wants to invest all this time and energy to just have these float around the internet and sit on people's hard drives unlistened.

that's not to say that we are going to be anti-downloading or anything, as i think we all realize the value of free music and file sharing in today's music world. i think it's more just about the presentation; we'd like to be at least sort of in control of that. so that being said, unless you come out to shows, most of the songs you hear probably won't be out for awhile. but when they are released, it will be the result of lots of hard work and labors of love. we love this music and we want you to as well.

oh well, that's enough rambling from me. hope to see you soon.

jeff and i are skipping practice

hey guys, brian and jeff here

we're just sitting around listening to mike and aaron dick around at practice. apparently 'blues in A' is going to be the first two tracks on our album. so get pumped for that.

we're pretty much just working on our new songs right now, which are all real good. like, real real good.

events calendar-

6/21 - @ some grad party for ben's boss's daughter, where we will be debuting our cover of
'taking care of business' by bachman turner overdrive

6/26 - @ grog shop w/ unwed sailor, sybris, to be a high powered executive; get pumped

7/5 - @ heart and sole down in coventry with some other people, mostly hip hop artists. this is likely to POP OFF.

7/8-7/15 - @ pawtucket, RI with this man to record some music

7/19 - @ leanne butkovic's grad party. we should just play these for a living instead.

come out to everything except the graduation parties since i think you have to get invited

that's pretty much everything lined up right now, but don't think this will be all we're up to. it's about to be A SUMMER OF FUN IN THE SUN.

cheers,
brian and jeff

Hello friends,

This is Brian, some of you may know me as the bassist from His Hideous Heart. Either way, you've stumbled upon the new online diary for our entire band. We (well, mostly me since I spend too much time on the internet as it is) will be posting updates, news, thoughts, ideas, pictures, shows and just about anything related or unrelated to our band that you can think of. So keep checking back.

cheers,
brian
